Professional Wallpapering Services
Feature Walls
A feature wall in an Edwardian front reception room transforms the space. The chimney breast wall is the natural focal point. We position the main pattern motif at eye level and work outward symmetrically.
For combined wallpapered and painted rooms, we coordinate with our interior painting service.
Full Room Wallpapering
Papering all four walls requires consistent pattern matching across every drop, clean internal corners, and precise trimming at every architectural feature. We work methodically and inspect every drop in natural light.
Lining Paper
Lining paper is not a shortcut to a flat wall. Many Edwardian properties have original plaster walls with slight movement and irregularity. We assess the wall condition before recommending a lining approach.
Period Properties and Bay Windows
Edwardian bay-windowed front rooms are one of the most common wallpapering requests we receive. The bay creates three distinct wall planes. For Edwardian property decorating, see our specialist page.
Wallpaper Removal
We soak, strip, and wash down the wall before any new paper goes on. Leaving adhesive residue shows through new paper as bubbles and ridges.

Our Wallpapering Process
1. Assessment
We visit before quoting and assess wall condition, ceiling height, paper specification, and any architectural features.
2. Wall Preparation
Old paper is stripped, adhesive residue removed, and the wall washed and dried. Plaster repairs are made. Lining paper is applied where required.
3. Sizing
A diluted size coat is applied to reduce suction and allow the paper to be positioned and adjusted.
4. Cutting and Matching
Drops are measured and pattern-matched before pasting. We begin at the most prominent focal point and work outward.
5. Hanging and Trimming
Paper is applied, smoothed, and trimmed at skirtings, architraves, dado rails, and ceiling line. Joints are rolled flat.
6. Final Check
We inspect the completed work in natural and raking light. Lifting edges or visible seams are addressed before leaving.

Wallpapering Costs in Southampton
Wallpapering costs are driven by room size, ceiling height, paper complexity, and the amount of preparation required on original plaster walls.

Room Size and Height
A feature wall in a standard Edwardian front room costs less than a full-room hang. Entrance halls with staircase walls are priced on a site visit.
Paper Type and Pattern Repeat
Large-repeat papers generate significant waste. Heavy luxury papers are more demanding to hang than standard weight.
Wall Condition
Original plaster walls may need preparation before hanging. Horizontal lining or double lining adds to cost and programme.
Trade insight. Always order at least one extra roll per wall when hanging in Edwardian rooms. The pattern repeat waste in a full-height bay-windowed room is often significantly higher than standard calculators suggest.
